sleepingunderstatues: Sally Mann. Candy Cigarette. 1989. I adore this photo by Sally Mann. Technically she’s quite brilliant. Also, there’s something really evocative about a child smoking, even though the title let’s us know that she’s not really. Mann was able to capture her daughter in this photo at the exact perfect moment. Her expression and her posture are brilliant. It does have a sort of lolita vibe that worries me, yet somehow I think that’s kind of the point. Kids are growing up too fast. Not sure if that’s what Mann is trying to say but it seems poignant to me.
